The Wellness of You — #218 — Got a Habit?

posted in Nutrition and Weight Loss |

Over the next few weeks I’d like to do some short articles on bad eating habits — and what to do about them. I know that I sure find myself with some of these habits and would like to know what to do to avoid them. So, while I hope I’m helping you to resolve any of these habits — I also am striving to help myself in the process.

weight loss, nutrition, health, diet, breakfast

Here’s the first one for this week —

Serious Snacking!

One of the main reasons why this is considered a bad eating habit is because you’re more than likely going to overeat — and the things you eat may not be what you need.

Let’s face it, a healthy snack or two between meals is a great idea and one I highly recommend. (The emphasis is on the word “healthy“!) This sort of snacking can help to keep your blood sugar levels steady and getting a few more fresh fruits and vegetables into your body is a good thing.

However, when you snack rather than eat a real meal you’re much more likely to lose track of just how much you’re eating. Obviously, what you eat is also important. Usually, serious snackers choose things like chips, cookies, crackers, candy, ice cream and pretzels. These are not nutritious — they’re “empty food” and will leave you feeling hunger again in just a few minutes, so you end up eating too much of them and you start to wonder why your pants aren’t fitting the way they should.

So, what can you do to fix the problem of serious snacking? One of the best ways is to allow yourself two snacks each day — and keep track of the calories — no more than 100 to 300 calories each. Plus, choose good food — real food. Don’t choose the cookie or the candy bar — rather go for half of a tuna sandwich — or a few whole-grain crackers with some low-fat cheese — or a handful of nuts. Another good one is some of those baby carrots dipped in some hummus. I personally like a little yogurt sprinkled with some granola.

Go ahead and snack, but snack healthy!

As you know, I do practice sitting, silent meditation every day in my life. Recently, I did a podcast about this for another blog that I read. Take a moment and click this link to hear what meditation means to me and what it does for me.

My Meditation Podcast

In my meditation I use what I truly believe is the most powerful personal growth and mind development tool on earth. It’s the The Holosync Solution. I knew that meditation was a vital element to nurturing my soul — to opening myself to the universe — and this tool has allowed me to achieve and receive the benefits of deep, long-term meditation — and to achieve it much more quickly. If you’re having trouble “getting meditation to work for you” - then the The Holosync Solution is what you’re looking for.

Regular, daily meditation can give you …

(1) Increased intelligence and creativity.
(2) Lower stress levels — and with that — increased ability to handle whatever the world tosses your way.
(3) New levels of self-awareness and inner peace.
(4) The healing of emotional issues at the deepest levels —

— it’s definitely worth taking the time for this powerful practice every day.
