This blog is devoted to things on my mind. I may post often -- or -- I may not post for a couple of weeks. The content will be varied and this blog is not designed for search engines. It's just for us folks. Enjoy, and come back often. I'd also encourage your comments. Peace!

The Wellness of YOU! - # 156 - Blood Pressure - Home Remedies

May I have a word with you?

If you were here recently, then you’ve heard this audio. The article for today is below. If you haven’t heard the audio, then ….

There are a variety of things you can do to take care of yourself at home, that may also help to lower your blood pressure. Again, to repeat, high blood pressure is something that needs to be taken seriously, so the things I mention in this article should not be construed as something you should do without first talking to your doctor about it.

With that in mind, one of the most important things that you can do at home is to get on a good low-fat, low-sugar, low-salt diet. There are a multitude of good sources for how to do this on every bookshelf in most every store and also on the internet. If you spend some time and read through many of the articles that I’ve written here in this blog, you’ll get plenty of information about how to have a healthy, nutritious diet.

There is one thing I have mentioned briefly in another article, that bears repeating when we’re talking about blood pressure — and that is garlic. Not only is this a great blood pressure reducer, it also has the properties that will help to reduce blood clots. Some researchers also think garlic is capable of reducing the triglyceride levels in addition to lowering the blood pressure in an individual. Don’t worry about the smell it can leave on your breath, just include it in your meals when you’re staying home, and also pick up some of those garlic pills — they won’t give you bad breath. Be careful here, don’t put the garlic in a lot of high-fat meals — that won’t work. Stay low-fat! It’s vital that you do this.

You should also be sure to include things like bananas, kidney beans, molasses and soy in your diet as these are high in potassium and magnesium. Fruits such as grapes and watermelon are also good sources of potassium and magnesium, but they also contain calcium, all of which are great for reducing blood pressure.

Do consult your doctor if you want to follow any of the advice above. Make sure you get the okay before you make any changes like this. Also, if your doctor has prescribed some medications for you, don’t ever stop taking those without making sure the doctor says it’s okay to do so.
