On to Comfort Food — this is especially important to think about during the winter months. This is the time of year when we’re cooped up more and when we have more temptations to reach for comfort foods — especially the foods that make you feel warmer — foods like pizza of fast-food hamburgers.

If you’ve been spending any time at this blog over the past many months, you already know that foods like this are loaded with fat and calories. And, this type of food would be just what the doctor ordered if you were actually suffering from severe starvation. But what most of us truly need this time of year are nutrient-rich foods.

Here’s a little list of some of the foods that I have on my list:

* lean turkey or chicken
* blueberries
* wild salmon
* spinach
* dark chocolate (Mmmm!)
* broccoli or other dark greens vegetables

These and other foods like these are full of flavor and they satisfy our hunger. They’re full of vitamins that work to boost our immune system, and they have lots of minerals and illness-fighting antioxidents.

If you have a tendency to catch colds or get the flu easily, you should also add a good supplement that has plenty of vitamin C. (See my recommendation below for the supplement that I take.)
