This blog is devoted to things on my mind. I may post often -- or -- I may not post for a couple of weeks. The content will be varied and this blog is not designed for search engines. It's just for us folks. Enjoy, and come back often. I'd also encourage your comments. Peace!

The Wellness of YOU! - # 91 - Weight Loss

In our last article, we left off with these tips on how to control your appetite and keep on track with your nutrition and weight loss program …

1) Eat more often
2) Eat good, real, non-processed food
3) Eat breakfast every morning

Let’s continue with a few more tips.

4) Get enough fiber in your diet

When you eat foods that are high in fiber content, you will find that you’ll feel full longer. That will, obviously, help you to eat less because your appetite will be satisfied for longer.

5) Eat healthy fats

If you’ve been reading the Nutrition and Weight Loss blog for any length of time, you’ve heard this before. The good fats, the healthy fats, can help you to lose weight. The healthy fats, like those found in olive oil, nuts, and some fish, will help you to control your appetite. If you go to the Search Box over on the left of this page, and search on “Omega-3″ — or “healthy fats” — you should find other articles about good fats.

6) Stay away from sugar

What happens when you eat products that have sugar in them (that’s any kind of sugar — sucrose, glucose, corn syrup). You will get a spike in the insulin in your system followed by a sudden drop. That will make your body think it’s still hungry and you’ll go looking for some more food. This is known as a sugar-craving and it’s almost uncontrollable. You eat a sweet thing because you feel hungry. Shortly after, you start to feel hungry again so you eat more of the same. The cycle continues and you end up gaining weight because all that excess sugar gets stored as fat.

When you want to snack, snack on things that will help you, not hurt you — things that have little or no sugar in them. Keep a supply of fruits or nuts to munch on — and keep your weight down.

7) Drink plenty of water

One of my readers left a comment on the last article to remind me that water is a great appetite suppressant. If you feel a bit hungry and you’re craving something you shouldn’t have, drink a glass of water. It works like a charm. Plus, we should all drink plenty of water every day — you’ve heard it before — eight tall glasses every day.

Here’s the comment about that …

Hi Ron
I am fortunate that I do not have a weight problem. I attribute that to my addiction to water. I have found that when I get a craving for munchies between meals, a tall glass of water takes care of it.
There really is something to the saying to drink eight glasses a day!

I would love to hear from you. One of the advantages of using a blog to communicate is the fact that it’s not a one-way medium. At the end of each article there is a link where you can comment about what you’ve read. It’s a great way to exchange thoughts and ideas.
