Okay! You are reading the articles on this blog because you want to lose some weight, right? You want to take the steps needed to improve your wellness, health and fitness, isn’t that right?
I think it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that you’re not alone in this goal. In fact, more than half of the adults in the USA are overweight — and nearly a quarter of them are overweight by more than 30 pounds. (That’s right from the National Institutes for Health.)
Now, here are some more statistics. (Yes, I know they can be boring — but these you should read!)
We spend over $33 billion a year (yes, that’s billion!) on products and services that are related to weight loss. This includes spas, health clubs, drugs, diet pills, packaged diet plans and surgery.
Some of the folks who read these articles have discovered that losing weight, for them, is a lifelong struggle. They take some off, then they put it right back on. Sometimes they put more back on than they took off. One of the more common reasons for this yo-yo phenomenon is because many people keep trying those quick-fix plans. They want to see some sort of magic way to lose weight. The plan that says you can lose 30 pounds in 30 days will generally not work. You probably will lose some weight, but you’re most likely going to gain it right back.
Take a good, hard look at how you accomplish things — anything. Do you find that having your friends and family as support-coaches works best for you? If so, then perhaps a plan like Weight-Watchers would work for you. If you find that you’re a self-motivated person, then design your own plan. If you like to use technology to accomplish things in your life, then go check out some of the web sites that will help you to track how you’re doing. There are also plenty of online forums where you can exchange ideas, get and make suggestions, and just share with others who have similar goals.
