How To Stay Motivated!

How To Stay Motivated!
January 5, 2006

Continuing on with our articles on health and fitness, we take a look at motivation, and offer some suggestions on how to keep your motivation in high gear.

Staying motivated is the key to eating healthy, exercising regularly and finding the willpower you need to stay on track. The one thing you need to stay motivated is a good, strong discipline muscle!

Your desire to stay motivated is the motor for flexing your discipline muscle when others around you are letting theirs get flabby!

I know — I can hear you now — “But, it’s so hard to stay motivated!” — “But, I just love to eat cookies, cakes, pies, and ice cream — and I just love to drink sodas!” — “I just can’t give up those things!”

And, you know something — it IS HARD!

It’s all about getting enough determination, enough drive to want to get healthy, so that you’re willing to make a life-style change.

But why is it so hard for us to stay motivated?

Why is it so hard to pursue what we know is good for us?

Why is it so hard to give up the habits that make us sick, fat, and old before our time?

In order to keep yourself motivated, you need to have five systems in place. All your good intentions — all those New Year’s resolutions — all those reasons why you got those good intentions in the first place — to change your life — and lose weight — and get healthy — will completely fall apart unless you:

• Set up your environment to “win.” (Time, space, tools)
• Find the right support team. (Friends, support group, online community)
• Find a program that you can live with every day (No quick-fix diets)
• Learn to love the food that loves you. (Healthy food that tastes good)
• Learn to navigate the “mind-fields” of self-sabotage! (Read the article from yesterday on how to “Stop Self-Sabotage”)

It may sound difficult, but once you make up your mind to put these systems in place, staying motivated will be a breeze.

I’ll see you again tomorrow.

Don’t forget to check out the “Pages” links over on the left.

Shanti.
